It affected me deeply. Here in McDonalds these two business men were praying over their food. They weren’t concerned with who was watching or if they looked stupid. I got out my notepad and thought to myself…this will be my next dailyjoylog entry.

We are so caught up in all of our old mindsets and beliefs that we’ve picked up over the years, that it clouds our greatness. We all have so much to offer we just can’t see it.

Christmas has come and gone and I can tell you one thing. When it comes to gifts, I believe I received one of the most spectacular ones this year and Walmart could not provide it.

I decided to make this morning a little different. Before my husband was completely awake I started singing. The first song that came to my mind was “Spanish Flea” by Herb Albert and The Tijuana Brass. Don’t ask me why that stupid song popped into my head, but it did. I suggest you you tube it if you don’t know it. It will give you a good idea of how funny I looked and sounded lying on my back looking up at the ceiling singing this song.

I think everything can be solved if you take the time to communicate without lashing out at each other. I suppose that’s why I’ve been happily married for twenty nine years to my very best friend.

You’re a size ten? Honey you need to get down to a zero! Where the heck did size zero come from anyway? A size six used to be considered tiny. Now we have to aspire to be a zero? Really? I don’t think I was a size zero when I was born and at this age I don’t think I’ll be squeezing into a zero or a two or a four any time soon. Guess what? I’m pretty happy with myself anyway. I’m not a cow but I could feel bad about myself if I believed what the magazines and commercials told me. “Babe, you’re just not good enough.”

The other night I came downstairs to the funniest sight. My dashing husband was dressed in his hip jeans, awesome shirt, a snappy suit jacket, sitting in a chair watching the Lawrence Welk Show. I was going out for the evening with a girl friend but I had to stop in my tracks to take notice of this strange phenomenon. I started to laugh out loud. Within minutes we were both laughing hysterically.

There we were in my uncles kitchen. My mother, uncle, cousins and nephews. Ken and I started to sing a little Irish ditty that someone had taught us years ago and off to the races we went with hysteria. We laughed and laughed.

My mother who is eighty seven years young has a great philosophy on life. She told me “If you care about me, come see me while I’m alive, not when I’m dead.” I’ve always taken that statement to heart. If we really care about the people we say we love, doesn’t it make sense to call them once in a while? Perhaps send them a little gift now and then? Or better yet, pay them a visit when you can. I know it’s hard to find the time and in this economy money may be an issue.
