A Joyful Easter

I was raised Jewish. As a young girl the only thing I remember about Easter was my girl friends getting new dresses for the big day.

Easter morning I would see all of my neighbors dressed up ready to go to church. After church they would eat yucky glazed ham with pineapple on top. I think a maraschino cherry was in there somewhere too. Uch! I was not envious of the dinner.

My father was a kind man and always bought us a big hollow bunny and some jelly beans so we wouldn’t feel left out. God forbid we should be the only children on the block who weren’t bouncing off the walls from sugar!

Ken and I are quite spiritual not necessarily religious.  We chose to have a spiritual day canoeing this Easter.

On this beautiful Sunday we set out early and went to one of our favorite lakes in the area. We spent the day paddling. It was glorious. The water was calm and there were only a few other boats to share the lake with.

We found a wonderful campsite right on the water with a view of the mountains.  A great place to spend the afternoon. We spread out the blanket, ate lunch, talked about life and took a nap in the warm sunshine.

Our dog Frito was so calm and seemed to enjoy the day just as much as we did.

We saw a snake swimming, heard woodpeckers pecking, felt the cool breeze and watched the little sparkles glisten on the water. Now if that is not a spiritual experience I don’t know what is.

Nature for me has always been a form of church.  No stained glass, no man made pews, no scriptures from the bible.

Being in nature reminds me that we are all a part of what is.

I said some prayers, I sat in gratitude that I could share this day with my husband of 26 years and my dog of 12. I thought of my dear mother-n- law who is in intensive care.  I took in all of Gods beauty and had a Blessed and Joyful Easter Sunday.

Whatever way you chose to celebrate Easter, I hope it was filled with joy.

Sounds like a great day…will set the prayer wheels spinning here for Ken’s Mom…By the way, I really missed our conversation this morning….doesn’t feel like a “proper Thursday”.
