Information Overload?

Do you know when you are mentally burned out?

It’s pretty easy for us to tell when we are physically exhausted because our body aches, we’re completely run down and it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning.

Mental exhaustion is another thing.

My husband works very hard on the computer. For the past year Ken has been extra focused. He was in school online, he’s creating a web site, and always has various projects that he’s working on. He is an information junkie.

I don’t think either one of us knew how burned out he was. There were little signs here and there but we didn’t think much about it.

One day Ken said “I’ve got to get away, I am totally burned out.” He could no longer function mentally or physically. He was totally exhausted. What did I know? He looked fine to me.

What do you do when this happens?

We booked a hotel for the weekend and left town for a few days. We knew that a two hour hike was not going to take care of this. We needed to go somewhere and reconnect, relax, and take a long break. We knew it would be good for us individually and as a couple.

It must have been the right thing for us to do because everything flowed that weekend. We got a fabulous hotel on Priceline, parking spaces were always waiting for us, weather was glorious, food was good (except for the little Greek restaurant that had been there for 43 years. I think Mama Leonie should have retired 30 years ago.)

We had a great time and most of all we recognized what we needed. We didn’t hesitate because keeping the JOY alive is most important.
