Did You Fool Someone Yesterday?

Yesterday was April Fools Day and I managed to pull a few harmless pranks on my friends.

My poor husband Ken got hit hard.

The day before yesterday Ken was outside spraying down his canoe getting it ready for summer.

This is no ordinary canoe. This is a very special kevlar canoe that Ken loves deeply. He is a northern Canadian and doesn’t take paddling lightly. We’ve taken many long canoe trips over the years and this boat has deep sentimental meaning to both of us.

The next morning, which was yesterday, I looked out the window and exclaimed “Ken, your canoe is gone.” We have it locked up to our deck outside with a very strong cable so whoever wanted this canoe would really have to  work to get it.

Ken asked me quietly if the cable had been snipped. I replied “yes”.  He said, “Don’t touch anything!”

I ran downstairs, grabbed the phone and told Ken that I was going to call the police. I went into the other room and made sure he could hear me. “Hello, yes, I would like to report a stolen canoe.” I gave the dial tone my address and told them yes we would be home if they would please come over today.

Ken kept his cool the entire time. Me, I would have been ranting and raving. “Who would do such a thing?”

Once I said April Fools I could see how deeply this affected my introverted husband. Poor Guy. I felt bad for about 15 seconds and then laughed and jumped around like a little girl. “Gotcha!!”

Ok, I felt bad about causing Ken a bit of pain, but after he got over it we discussed how much canoeing meant to us. That little boat brings us so much JOY.  We are truly grateful that it is still in the yard waiting for us to take it for a ride.

Just leave a comment below this post, or click here “WHAT BRINGS YOU JOY” and tell us what brings you joy. :)
