I Could Use A Cookie!!

The other night after attending a workshop, I . called a friend to see if she wanted me to stop by after wards for a visit. She wasn’t in the best frame of mind, she had been sick and was feeling a little down so I decided to go home instead. As I pulled in my driveway I decided maybe I should go visit her and try to cheer her up since she’d had such a rotten day.

I got back on the road and pulled into her driveway. I clipped my wad of car keys to the outside of my purse as I always do. I opened the car door, locked it and before I got out of the car, I thought, I don’t really need my purse, I’ll leave it here in the car. Just as I closed the door I knew it was too late. Boom, the door shut and sure enough the door locked with my keys and purse on the floorboard of my car. Cra—-p!

I went into my friends house and told her that I had locked my keys in the car and would she mind driving me home later to get my other set of keys? She agreed to take me home, no big deal.

At 11:30pm we decided it was time to go. One problem, my car was parked in the middle of the driveway and her car was parked behind mine so that she wasn’t able to get out.

Ok, let’s think about this…..what do we do now? Call a cab? Call my husband and see if he could borrow the neighbors car to come and get me? We only have one car. He’s probably sleeping, my neighbors are probably sleeping. Not a good idea.

We went outside to analyze the car situation to see if there was anything that we could do. We saw that the car door hadn’t closed all the way. My seat belt had gotten caught in the door. Whoa….how great is that?

Maybe if we got a coat hanger and tried to jimmy it in the door we could pop the little lock button up and we’d be laughing. We got a coat hanger and my friend had a tiny light on her key chain to light the way. It didn’t help much at all. There we were, Lucy and Ethel trying to get the door open at 11:30pm in the cold and dark.  We laughed and tried and tried but no such luck.

What’s next on the list? We call her neighbor. What? A single woman at 11:30 at night? Wake her up? My friend assured me that her neighbor went to bed at 4am and sleeps until noon. Oh come on, really? Could we be that lucky? With that, she called her friend and sure enough she was up and more than happy to drive me into town to get my keys. How serendipitous is that?

That’s what I call good karma. I made the extra effort to visit my friend who was feeling crummy and the neighbor just happens to be a night owl who was willing to take me home. That’s experiencing joy and passing it on!

I just got done making a batch of oatmeal, chocolate chip, cherry, almond cookies for this nice woman. I delivered them to her house with some tea. A little thank you for being so nice.

I made the extra effort to see my friend, the neighbor made the extra effort to drive me home and now I’ve made the extra effort to bake cookies. Of course, I made a double batch so there would be plenty for us as well. They are sooo good too if anyone wants the recipe.

I love when things like that happen and everyone’s happy.

Doing nice things for others always comes back around in one way or another. That’s just how the universe works.

Experience Joy And Pass It On!
